Scanner woes...

My scanner used to be my fave new toy, now it drives me insane!!! I love textures and layers on my layouts, but my scanner doesn't and despite my hubby's wonderful efforts at buying me the easiest, good quality point and shoot camera, I just don't get great pictures or scans of my layouts - ugh! Any advice bloggy friends?

Anyhow, here a couple of new layouts:

This one I scanned, but unfortunately you cannot see the cute sparkly swirls that I made on the white paper using heat embossing nor can you really tell that the button rainbow is fashioned after the rainbow on my shirt in the pictures. It really is cute IRL!

I opted for the camera on this one, turned out okay, but you cannot tell that those black dots are **bling**, nor can you see that I put some of the bling on the acrylic frame, oh well. I actually used my Heidi Swapp polka dot mask on this one that I've had for ages and haven't ever used!! And let's not even talk about how old the papers and the MM frame are - wink, wink!

Hope you're have a great Labor Day weekend!

Answered prayers and prayers needed...

Last night we had Alex's Open House, which Andy made it home for - yippeeee! His teacher, Bree is so sweet, I hope he doesn't give her too hard of a time, but I know he'll test his boundaries with her in the beginning.
Our school district here has 1/2 day kindie, so they offer KinderZone the other half of the day (making it full day for kids whose parents work or just need them to be there longer for one reason or another). We have enrolled Alex in KinderZone on Tuesdays and Thursdays to get some socialization because it's not free play, act crazy (he can do that at home for free!), it is structured, some extended learning/review of what they have going on in the classroom. One of the exciting parts of KZ is that he will be there for lunch time and they eat in the cafeteria! FUN! They'll go through the lunch line, pick what they want, just like the big kids - I'm so darn excited for him to experience it!!
So where does my prayer request come in? They asked me when I signed him up for KZ if I wanted him to have an assistant and I said yes, just to get him started, but maybe phase the assistant out...well because there is another boy from his class also in KZ, but 5 days a week (his mom works and they are just the sweetest family, so glad that he and Alex will be together again this year!) and he's not potty trained (which I'm amazed at the number of kids on ASD that aren't potty trained, which makes me so thankful that we don't have those kinds of issues with our little man, so he was 3 1/2 before he was trained, that doesn't sound so awful anymore), he and Alex will share an assistant. So where am I going...this little boy has to have a full time assistant due to the potty issues, the assistant will not be phased out, but remain for the whole year and when we went to meet the KZ teacher she said that the person whom she's hoping will be the assistant is Mr. Jason - Alex's second swim teacher that told us his "real job" was working with special needs kids with ASD and ADHD - the one that was amazing with Alex!!! So you know we are delighted about that and have prayed about it numerous times already and would appreciate yours too!
Answered prayers:
Got a call from The Therapy Place where we want to take Alex for additional Speech and Occupational Therapy (incorporating food therapy) and they are on a wait list for therapy sessions - ugh! But wait, the lady sees that Alex is in afternoon kindie, are we available for some morning therapy sessions? YES we are, so today we're headed there today to take copies of Alex's evaluations, IEP and other random things. What a blessing that we have afternoon kindie so we can have M,W,F morning available to get some outside therapies!
I emailed with the director of Ice Skating lessons and she remembers us from the spring and is looking for Alex's registration (opens tomorrow!), so she can assign Ms. Lori to his session. Wow, I was blown away because I simply asked which session Lori was teaching so I could register Alex for that one and she replied saying that whatever session (time really) we register for, she's assign Lori to it! Blessings!
Okay, we're off to run some errands, thanks for reading my chattering!

I Partied...

At Studio Calico tonight, but only for about 20 minutes - I fell asleep with Alex, during a story!! It's storming and Andy's home tonight, so I'm off to sleep like a baby - I'll be dreaming of the delightful SC goodies!!
Goodnight!

Vintage papers...

Hi, it's me the paper hoarder, paper snob! I've been so loving using my new SC kit, but for these three layouts I challenged myself to use some "vintage" (hehe!) papers. Plus I made room for the Studio Calico kit, not that it will make it into my paper files before I devour it, but at least I made room in my conscience - HA!

This layout is for Erin's Thursday Challenge, bless her heart, she gave us a catch-up week - she knows we all need one, especially me! I dug deep into my vintage Doodlebug for this layout (notice all of the matchey-matchey paper/ribbons/sticker tags - back in the day, Wiemann and I snatched up everything Doodlebug we could get our hands on, we were the DB queens!).

April's Saturday Challenge came with a sketch and the possibility for a RAK (!) because she's celebrating her 2 year anni over at j4k!!!
I've had this Karen Foster paper forever, seriously!

I told you I'm behind and needing some catch-up time and this is a prime example, this is for Jamie's Tuesday challenge, three weeks ago! I really like how the x's on the tag frames turned out, even though I'm not lovin the turned sideways title and journaling - it looked SO good when Becky Higgins did it on her layout/sketch that I lifted, but not so much on mine - oh well, it's done, not turning back now!

Three layouts, I know, amazing for me!! I thought I was going to get some more scrappy time tonight, but Andy's coming home early in hopes to try to make it to Alex's Kindergarten Open House tonight. I'll give up scrappy time for him being able to go to the Open House anytime!

Have a wonderful Wednesday and if you're up around midnight (EST), I'll be over at SC chatting and waiting for the big reveal! Very excited about that!

Total random ramblings...

Such a slow weekend for us, but that was good. We went to the lake fishing - Alex was really excited to catch a fish on his Pirates of the Caribbean fishing pole that his PawPaw bought him:

The weather here is so nice that I have the windows open, but it's so windy here, just like being in Oklahoma, except next week we'll have snow I'm sure!

Look what came yesterday:

That's our deck, the cedar smells so good! (I know, I'm a freak!)

Our house looks naked, so I'm glad that they got started on the deck today - they got a lot done today, but I'll wait to take pics once they're gone (I'm sure they already think I'm watching them seeing as my hubby never put the blinds up on the sliding glass door and I spend half my day in the kitchen!).

So in my kitchen, this is what I'm working on:

Yep, the beginnings to some yummy salsa, I added black beans and some leftover corn that I shave off the cob, YUM! I'll be having chips and salsa as my dinner tonight!

The other thing I'm whipping up in the kitchen, a milkshake for my lil man:

What he doesn't know is there's a container of mixed veggies baby food mixed in his chocolate milk shake - hehe! I made him one on Sunday that he devoured, so today when he asked for a snack and when I presented him with another special treat, he was very excited!!

Speaking of foods NOT to eat, over at the j4k forum, April asks us a question of the day so that we can all get to know about each other and today's question was to list 5 things that you cannot eat. It was HARD for me because if you've seen my rear-end, you know there's not much that I don't eat. Mine were beets, brussels, chicken broccoli casserole (my dh's fave, he'd eat it every night if I'd fix it - I do fix it for him occassionally, but the smell of it makes me queezy!), tobasco sauce (I like hot sauce, but don't like the tobasco ones), and canned fish or meat. What dear blog readers, are your 5???

I've got two layouts that I've done the past two days that I need to scan, but it's feedin time for Alex again, so I'd better get thinging about some dinner!

Have a terrific Tuesday !
